Nkanu Egbe

Nkanu Egbe is a Fellow of The Capacity Institute and a veteran Nigerian journalist, media founder, and communications strategist with over four decades of experience shaping public discourse in Nigeria. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of South Africa, a foundation that informs his analytical approach to journalism and policy commentary. He is the founder and editor of Lagos Metropolitan (lagosmetropolitan.com), a digital news platform recognised for rigorous, Lagos-focused journalism spanning business, governance, and civic affairs. His editorial career began in broadcasting at Cross River Radio and Radio Nigeria in 1982, and progressed through print journalism at Vanguard and the editorship of Society magazine — a post he assumed at just 23, making him one of Nigeria's youngest editors — before founding Expression magazine in 1991.

As a publisher and editor, Nkanu has worked on over 20 titles spanning academic, policy, government, faith, and autobiographical works, bringing the same editorial rigour that defines his journalism to long-form publishing. His work also extends into political and institutional strategy. In 2014, he headed the team that developed the Cross River State Public Affairs and Orientation policy, and he has advised on presidential campaign positioning and governance frameworks for traditional and customary structures across the state. He has produced in-depth analysis on Nigerian security, press freedom, and foreign direct investment readiness, and consults on communications and PR strategy for organisations navigating complex public environments. He also serves as a Trustee of the Sesor Empowerment Foundation, a Lagos-based NGO providing relief, rehabilitation, and livelihood support to internally displaced persons across Nigeria.

Central to Nkanu's life is his work in Christian ministry, which he considers foundational to his identity. He currently serves as President of the Men's Missionary Union and Coordinator of the Prison Ministry at Good News Baptist Church, Surulere, Lagos.

Rooted in the Bahumono community of Abi LGA, he brings a rare combination of grassroots cultural insight, ministry-grounded compassion, and national media authority to his fellowship work.
