Technology Strategist & Business Educator

Bassey Essien is an internationally experienced technology strategist, implementation specialist, and business educator whose career spans enterprise information systems, digital transformation, organisational capability development, and executive education. Combining extensive experience across academia, healthcare, telecommunications, government, and private enterprise, he has built a distinguished reputation for translating complex technological systems into practical organisational solutions that improve institutional performance and execution.
He serves on the faculty of the School of Business at Liberty University, Virginia, where he has taught business information systems and business computing for more than a decade. His teaching focuses on equipping future business leaders with the technological capabilities required to thrive in an increasingly digital economy, while his emerging research explores the transformative implications of generative artificial intelligence for business education, organisational learning, and workforce development.
Before entering higher education, Mr Essien established a successful career in enterprise information technology, serving as Regional Systems Administrator at the former Verizon Wireless Messaging Services. There he managed mission-critical infrastructure supporting large-scale telecommunications operations, gaining extensive experience in enterprise systems administration, technology integration, operational resilience, and large-scale service delivery.
Throughout his professional career, Mr Essien has undertaken feasibility studies and strategic advisory assignments across multiple industries and jurisdictions, helping organisations evaluate investment opportunities, assess operational readiness, and develop implementation strategies for new ventures and transformational initiatives. His work reflects a deep understanding that institutional success depends not merely on strategic vision, but on the practical capacity to execute complex programmes effectively and sustainably.
A recognised specialist in health information technology, Mr Essien has led electronic health record (EHR) implementation, enterprise training, and digital transformation projects for hospitals across the United States and Canada. Specialising in Oracle Health platforms for both acute and ambulatory care environments, he has designed implementation frameworks, clinical workflow documentation, governance structures, and organisation-wide training programmes that enable healthcare institutions to convert major technology investments into measurable improvements in operational performance, clinical effectiveness, and patient outcomes.
As a certified instructional designer, he has developed sophisticated learning architectures that support enterprise-wide technology adoption and organisational change. His expertise lies at the intersection of technology, people, and institutional systems, recognising that sustainable transformation depends as much on human capability and organisational alignment as it does on technological innovation.
In addition to his academic and consulting work, Mr Essien is a senior partner in an information technology solutions company delivering advanced digital services to several agencies of the United States Federal Government, including the Department of Defence. Through this work, he contributes to the delivery of secure, mission-critical technology solutions operating within some of the world's most demanding institutional environments.
Mr Essien holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialisation in Global Management, reflecting his longstanding interest in international business, organisational strategy, and institutional development across diverse economic contexts.
